RICE NESHAP ROI Calculator
In most instances, the retrofit of an engine will be a capital expense. Universal understands that the basis of your decision will take into account financial factors. As each organization uses different methods to justify a capital expense, Universal created a calculator that provides calculations in ROI, NPV and Payback.
Equipment Investment
The equipment associated with a RICE NESHAP engine retrofit may include a catalyst system, a crankcase ventilation system, a data logger and structural framing. If you are working with a total RICE NESHAP supplier like Universal this information should be contained on your quote.
Installation Costs
Includes all labor associated with handling and installing the equipment involved in bringing your engine into RICE NESHAP compliance. Also include shipping costs in this section if it is not included elsewhere.
Compliance Test
If your engine required a retrofit with a catalyst system, you will need to perform an initial compliance test to demonstrate that the engine meets the new emission standards for its classification. Therefore, the costs for this test should be represented in year 0. Your engine(s) may also require an compliance test every 8750 hours of operation or 3/5 years, whichever comes first. Account for these costs in the subsequent years.
Ongoing Maintenance Costs
If you have installed a serviceable catalyst system, what is the labor costs and cleaning costs associated with this system? Your catalyst supplier will be able to provide you this information.
Training Costs
Will there need to be training of staff on how to use and maintain the new system? Specific training may be required on how to use the data logging system and maintenance practices for the catalyst and crankcase ventilation system. Also, RICE NESHAP requires record keeping on service and maintenance items. For those personnel responsible for the record keeping, there may be a need for special training and tool development.
Reporting Costs
Some engines may require a bi-annual report to be filed with the EPA or state enforcement agency. Consider the time it will require from someone on your staff to perform this reporting.
Other Costs
Use this section to enter any unique costs that may arise for your facility to bring your engine(s) into RICE NESHAP compliance.
