RICE NESHAP for the Diesel Engine Owner or Operator
What information do I need to gather?
Available engine back pressure:
Will the addition of a catalyst take your engine over its back pressure limits? If you don't know this information, Universal or a qualified engine distributor can help.
Cost/Budget:
Do you have an idea of what your budget constraints are? If so, this will help during the quoting process as there are ways to limit the costs for RICE NESHAP compliance.
Costs for RICE NESHAP compliance
Installation space available:
Take many photos of the exhaust system and the surrounding area.
Maintenance space available:
Is there a location on the current exhaust system that would provide easy and safe access to the catalyst?
Exhaust gas temperature:
Will the DOC be able to reach optimum temperatures to properly operate? If you don't know this information, contact Universal or your engine distributor.
Site condition changes (upgrade acoustic performance):
Chances are when your facility was first built there was no worry about neighbors complaining about noise. Is this still the case or is there future possibility of urban encroachment? This may be the opportune time to upgrade your engine silencer.
Condition of current silencer and exhaust system:
If you are adding a DOC, this may be an opportune time to redo your exhaust system, especially if it is showing its age. You will be shut down and have contractors on site, so the extra investment may pay for itself in the future.
