Waltz Engineering and Universal Team Up on Quiet Power Generation
Waltz Engineering, an engineering and specialty contracting firm based in Honolulu, Hawaii, has supplied two large systems manufactured by Universal to the Guam Power Authority Tenjo Power Plant Expansion Project. Each system consists of a vertical engine silencer and two exhaust stacks. These units attenuate noise from diesel generators and deliver the exhaust 85 feet into the atmosphere.
In November 1996 Universal manufactured two free-standing 85-ft units, which were designed to withstand 200 mph winds and seismic loads for Guam, for the same facility. Waltz Engineering supplied those units, and in 1999 ordered two new units to match those already in place, with the addition of several design improvements, including a new paint system. To facilitate field installation, Universal shipped a base template first, in October 1999. In February 2000, the new units were installed at the power plant.
