Universal Provides Turn-key Emissions System to Chilean Mine

Universal provided a complete turn-key Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system to a remote Chilean copper mine. The mine's 90,000 kW stand-by power plant required seventy-two SCR units to reduce Nitrous Oxide (NOx) emissions by 88%. Nitrous Oxide is a diesel exhaust byproduct that is strictly controlled by the Chilean Government. Universal personnel designed, manufactured, shipped and supervised installation of the SCR system on the diesel generators. The project was completed in October, 2008.

Universal's Global Resources Contributed to the Project

The project was a global undertaking; systems specification was led by Universal's United Kingdom commercial office, design work completed at the Universal headquarters in Stoughton, WI, USA, and manufacturing performed by Universal's plant in San Lois Potosi, Mexico.
