Universal Emission Technologies Supply Retrofits for Gantry Cranes
February 22, 2010
Universal Emission Technologies provides solution that meets EPA Strategy for Sustainable Ports.
Universal Emission Technologies worked with the Port of Baltimore authorities to upgrade their RTCs (Rubber Tire Cranes) to meet emission levels set forth by the EPA Strategy for Sustainable Ports. The Strategy contains an action that calls for the reduction of emission from marine vessels and harbor craft of at least 20% NOx and PM2.5 by 2020.
The Port upgraded twelve of their ship-to-shore RTCs under the EPA Strategy. Universal Emission Technologies provided an integrated acoustic and diesel oxidation catalyst system. The integrated system allowed easier installation because one component is installed instead of two and it fits in the space already allocated to the original silencer. Additional benefits of the integrated system were lower total system cost and better engine performance due to less back pressure on the engine.
This RTC was retrofitted at the Port of Baltimore under the EPA Strategy for Sustainable Ports.
The integrated acoustic and emission control system was designed to be installed in the existing footprint of the previous silencer.
