Universal Appoints Kiran Paranjape to Lead India Office

Michelle Grossholz, Vice President- Global Markets, located at Universal's corporate office in Stoughton, is pleased to announce the appointment of Kiran Paranjape as General Manager - India. Mr. Paranjape will have overall responsibility of the business including marketing, promotions, sales and production of Universal's acoustic and emission technologies throughout India. He will open a business office in Pune, India. Ms. Grossholz states, "Kiran's background and experience will help Universal identify and grow with key strategic customers in India. Many strategic OEM customers have production facilities within India and require local sourcing and support capabilities. Kiran and Universal's other global locations are key to servicing this customer base."
Universal Completes Westinghouse Gas Turbine Silencer in Time for Peak Electric Utility Season

Empire District Electric, a utilities company based in Joplin, Missouri, found its Westinghouse 501D gas turbine exhaust system in need of replacement to prepare for the upcoming summer. Empire contacted Universal in November 2009, with hopes to install a gas turbine silencer at their State Line Peaking Station by Memorial Day weekend. This date marks the traditional beginning of the air conditioning season and the need for maximum electric generating capacity. Universal provided the original silencer for the plant, and Empire returned to Universal for its new silencer, counting on their familiarity and expertise to get the job done.

Universal Emission Technologies Supply Retrofits for Gantry Cranes

Universal Emission Technologies worked with the Port of Baltimore authorities to upgrade their RTCs (Rubber Tire Cranes) to meet emission levels set forth by the EPA Strategy for Sustainable Ports. The Strategy contains an action that calls for the reduction of emission from marine vessels and harbor craft of at least 20% NOx and PM2.5 by 2020.

Universal Emission Technologies, a division of Universal, has announced the California Air Resources Board has verified that the new GreenShield™ Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) System meets Level 3 Plus system compliance. The GreenShield™ DPF System is designed for diesel engines that are used on stationary prime and emergency standby power generators and pumps.
Universal United Kingdom Consolidates Operations

DPF System Helps Energy Alternatives Comply with California Air Resources Board Standards

The Kroger Co.'s California distribution center recently purchased two 2-megawatt diesel engines through Energy Alternatives. To comply with the strict air pollution standards for diesel exhaust in the state of California, both engines were required to have California Air Resources Board verified Diesel Particulate Filters (DPFs) installed. In addition, rigorous acoustic silencing challenges needed to be solved. Universal Emission Technologies, a division of Universal, was awarded the project for the Diesel Particulate Filter systems because of their unique expertise in emission reduction and acoustics, and their ability to combine them in a single package.
Universal Upgrades GRU Filters

Gainesville Regional Utilities (GRU) Deer Haven Plant’s two GE Frame 5 filter houses were in dire need of an upgrade, for both performance and maintenance purposes. In use since the 1970’s, GRU’s automatic roll filters and filter houses had deteriorated and rusted beyond use. GRU called upon Universal to provide a turn-key filter system. Universal was selected not only on account of their expertise in inlet filtration and exhaust stacks, but also because they had partnered with GRU on several previous projects, fulfilling their acoustic and emissions needs time after time, in a quality, cost effective and timely manner.
Bill Hasz Named Americas Markets Sales Manager - Industrial Products

Bill Hasz has been named Americas Markets Sales Manager – Industrial Products. Mr. Hasz's responsibilities will be to strengthen Universal's rep network and develop the industrial exhaust markets, including noise reduction, diesel exhaust treatment and air pollution control. Randy Olson, VP Americas Markets states, "After an analysis of how to maximize Universal's position and direction for the industrial markets including diesel exhaust treatment, we determined that we needed a leader who best understands this growing aspect of our acoustic reduction and emission control business. Universal Takes on Increased Supplier Role with Siemens Power Generation

Universal has expanded its scope of supply with Siemens Power Generation. Initially a prime supplier for inlet silencers, Universal has proved their ability to provide additional exhaust ducting and silencing components for large turbine projects. Universal provided the inlet silencer, exhaust diffuser and exhaust stack/silencer for a 170 MW Siemens Turbine for Idaho Public Power Utilities, Evander Andrews plant. Additional turbine projects are scheduled with Siemens Power Generation for delivery in 2009.
Turnkey Turbine System in 5 Months!

Universal recently designed, dismantled, built and assembled a complete intake and exhaust system for Puget Sound Energy in less than 5 months - June to November, 2008. The replacement system was for a GE Frame 7A peak load generating station that was installed in 1980. Universal was awarded the project because of its experience in providing successful turbine system replacements around the world.
Universal Provides Turn-key Emissions System to Chilean Mine

Universal has provided a complete turn-key Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system to a remote Chilean copper mine. The mine's 90,000 kW stand-by power plant required seventy-two SCR units to reduce Nitrous Oxide (NOx) emissions by 88%. Nitrous Oxide is a diesel exhaust byproduct that is strictly controlled by the Chilean Government. Universal personnel designed, manufactured, shipped and supervised installation of the SCR system on the diesel generators. The project was completed in October, 2008.

Universal has announced plans to celebrate its 50 years of continued success. The plans include a global celebration at all of its business offices and manufacturing locations on May 21, 2009. Universal has business offices in the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Singapore, and China. Manufacturing locations are in Muscoda, Wisconsin, USA, and San Luis Potosi, Mexico.
Universal Announces Formation of Emissions Division

Today we are announcing that Universal has formed a new division dedicated to exhaust emissions technology named Universal Emission Technologies. The mission of this division will be to continue to invest in emissions technology that will allow Universal to further offer industry leading exhaust systems to our customers.
